TransCore and myFreightWorld Enter into Partnership, Providing Fleet Industry Expanded Equipment and Capacity Options for LTL Shipments
PORTLAND, Ore. – July 31, 2001 – TransCore, now operating the largest freight exchange network in North America through its recent acquisitions of DAT Services and Link Logistics, announces a partnership with myFreightWorld. The move links TransCore's DAT Services® network, a predominantly truckload freight exchange service, with myFreightWorld's less-than-truckload (LTL) online service.
According to the American Trucking Association, the less-than-truckload segment is a $55 billion industry. Given the complicated logistics of securing and moving multiple loads to multiple locations using a single truck, LTL shipments are traditionally difficult to move. Yet, consumer demand is making this a quickly emerging segment. Trucking industry analyst Martin Labbe of Martin Labbe Associates said the growth of electronic commerce [e-commerce] and historically low inventory levels should contribute to the availability of LTL shipments through 2002.
"With access to myFreightWorld LTL offerings and TransCore's full-truckload services, brokers will benefit from expanded transportation options and new business partners," said Owen Geisz, myFreightWorld's chief operating officer. "TransCore is quickly moving to provide access to every tool necessary for brokers' transaction and planning needs."
A recent customer survey indicates that nearly half of TransCore's freight exchange customers need access to the LTL transportation segment, as well as the ability to negotiate LTL shipments in the same online environment they use for their truckload negotiations. The partnership with myFreightWorld answers customers' requests, granting access to additional equipment opportunities and shipment availability in the LTL segment. This capability is another step toward TransCore enabling customers to easily conduct daily business from a single, Web-based location.
