DALLAS - May 26, 1998 - The Transportation Systems Group of Amtech Corporation (NASDAQ: AMTC) announced today its agreement with the Central Dallas Association (CDA), a nonprofit association that encourages business development in downtown Dallas. The agreement provides for the promotion of Amtech's PassKey(SM) Payment Services, a new electronic parking program that offers cash-free, card-free, hands-free convenience to downtown parking patrons.
PassKey(SM) is a turnkey electronic payment system that improves revenue control for garage operators and owners using Amtech's proven automatic vehicle identification (AVI) technology for parking and other intelligent transportation applications. PassKey offers customers, owners, and operators of parking facilities the same nonstop convenience electronic toll customers have received since 1989. With PassKey, motorists can enter and exit parking facilities without having to pull a ticket or pay with cash upon exiting.
"We are excited to join forces with CDA to offer downtown parking facilities in Dallas the convenience of Amtech's PassKey system," said Winston Guillory, senior vice president, sales, marketing, and field operations. "Amtech's electronic access control system allows parking facility operators to centralize account management and eliminate cash handling. PassKey also helps increase revenue potential."
Garages joining CDA's parking network will be equipped with Amtech's AVI system, which uses radio frequency technology to read electronic tags as motorists enter and exit the garage. Each garage owner receives a kit containing all material necessary to begin operations, including a dedicated personal computer (PC) that is pre-configured with all necessary software. This PC is used to communicate with the PassKey(SM) Clearinghouse via the Internet.
"CDA's Pegasus Parking Program® offers downtown parking customers a value-added service no other metropolitan area in the United States has," said Larry Fonts, president, CDA.
Customers wishing to participate in the program set up an account, purchase an electronic tag, and attach the tag to the inside of the vehicle's windshield.
The goal is to have customers sign up with CDA's Pegasus Parking Program® to combine their parking accounts with the electronic toll collection accounts they use on the Dallas North Tollway. If achieved, the use of Amtech technology in multiple applications in one metropolitan area will allow each customer to receive one, easy-to-read monthly statement from the PassKey Clearinghouse detailing all charges at participating facilities throughout Dallas.
In addition to gaining access to participating parking facilities, customers will soon be able to use their electronic Amtech tags to pay parking fees at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Dallas Love Field is considering Amtech's technology for later this year.
"Amtech is proud to be a part of this innovative program, which will connect participating parking facilities and toll roads across the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex," Guillory said.
CDA will market Amtech's PassKey(SM) Payment Services under the local brand name Pegasus Parking Program® to parking facilities throughout the North Central Texas area.
