Amtech Provides AEI to Renown Refrigerated
Fleet Carrier--Dick Simon Trucking
Entire Fleet to be Tagged with AEI Capability for Gate Access, Maintenance and Fueling Operations

DALLAS - Oct. 28, 1996 - Amtech Systems Corp. today announced it was chosen to provide its wireless, hands-free technology to Salt Lake City-based Dick Simon Trucking (NASDAQ-SIMN), one of the nation's fastest growing and 15th largest refrigerated fleets.

Installation of Amtech's tag and reader system is beginning now and is expected to be complete by the end of the year. The order calls for 10 SmartPass readers, which will be installed at the main Salt Lake City facility, and 2,500 tags to equip the entire Dick Simon Trucking fleet.

Amtech's automatic equipment identification (AEI) system will cover the entire fleet and be used for three primary functions at the main facility: gate access at the entrances and exits, maintenance bay identification and fueling operations.

Dick Simon Trucking is known as one of the industry's most technology savvy motor freight carriers. With a dedicated information systems staff, Dick Simon Trucking has developed its own custom software to complement Amtech's AEI application. Upon receipt of the tag identification from the Amtech readers, fuel pumps will automatically be activated for the vehicle, thus doing away with the inconvenience and inaccuracy of fuel transaction data using the current card system. The driver no longer will need to locate his card and fumble with any buttons on the card reader because the vehicle identification will be known and the pump activated automatically. This unique application is a testament not only to the creativity of the Dick Simon information systems staff, but to the versatility of the Amtech system.

"While we are proud of the convenience for the driver and data accuracy provided with our fueling interface, the most important benefits we expect to reap from the Amtech system are increased efficiency in getting vehicles into and out of the yard, accurate yard inventory and 'real-time' vehicle status tracking," said Bob Slaughter, Dick Simon Trucking's director of MIS. Defined vehicle status includes: entering yard, fueling, quick service, main shop, exiting yard.

Amtech readers will be placed at the entrance and exits of the main Salt Lake City terminal, at its maintenance bays and fueling facilities. Dick Simon Trucking has five such terminals around the country in: Atlanta; Fontana, Calif.; Katy, Texas; Phoenix; and Portland, Ore. The company is further considering placing readers at its drop yards throughout the United States. A drop yard is a temporary holding facility for trailers or other equipment.

"Dick Simon Trucking is an innovative company that makes the most out of its technology," said Michael Uremovich, Amtech's director of worldwide fleets. "We're pleased to count them as one of our newest customers and look forward to seeing them increase efficiency using our technology."
