TransCore President - Commercial Technology Group

John Worthington has served as president of TransCore since 1999, and through his leadership developed and implemented a strategy that quadrupled the company’s revenue, increased profitability by over 8 times and diversified TransCore’s business base from predominantly state and federal government services into commercial applications. In December 2004, Mr. Worthington orchestrated TransCore’s acquisition by Roper Industries (NYSE:ROP), a diversified growth company with 2007 revenues of $2.1 billion and a total market capitalization exceeding $6 billion. Roper is a component of the Standard & Poor's Mid-Cap 400, Russell 1000, and Fortune 1000 Indexes.

With installations in 46 countries, more than 100 patents, and pioneering applications of RFID and satellite communications technologies, TransCore's expertise is unparalleled in the markets it serves. In 2007, Engineering News-Record (ENR) ranked TransCore No. 60 out of the Top 500 Design Firms and No. 11 for firms that specialize in transportation. TransCore’s almost 70-year heritage supporting the transportation industry spans a range of offerings for the trucking, rail, intermodal, toll, traffic management, airport, parking, access control and homeland security markets.

Prior to his appointment as president, Mr. Worthington served as TransCore’s chief operating officer from 1996 to 1999. Prior to that, Worthington was chief operating officer of Syntonic Technology, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC. Worthington was a principal in Syntonic from 1986 to 1994 and acted in a number of executive management positions including chief financial officer.

From 1982 – 1985, Mr. Worthington served in various financial and operating capacities with UGI Corp., a diversified energy company, and as a corporate planning analyst with Scott Paper Co. Mr. Worthington began his professional career in 1977 as an environmental planner with Diaz-Seckinger & Associates, a Florida-based transportation consulting engineering firm. From 1978 to 1980, Mr. Worthington was a test engineer with Chrysler Corp.

John Worthington earned a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), a Master’s of Science from Eastern Michigan University, graduating summa cum laude, and a Bachelor’s of Science from Eastern Michigan University, graduating summa cum laude.
